By summarizing the precious experience of child studies in modern China, and also learning from international research findings on child studies and the New Humanities, School of Education , the Center of Philosophy for Children from Hangzhou Normal University and the Center of International Urban Studies in Hangzhou held together the First Advanced Seminar on Child Studies in November 1st at Canqiang Campus of Hangzhou Normal University. The primary aim of this seminar is to promote the development of Chinese child studies, as well as the formation of the professional community and its research paradigm, and therefore to lay the solid foundation for educational research and other child-related practice.
The seminar has invited 12 national and international scholars specializing on child (childhood) studies, including the CIPSH chair of New Humanities in University of California (Irvine) Professor Hsiung Ping-chen, Professor Liu Xiaodong from East China Normal University, Professor Yu Wei from Northeast Normal University, Former President of John Dewey Society and Professor Leonard J. Waks from Temple University in USA, Associate Professor Qian Yu from East China Normal University, Associate Research Professor Zheng Xuhua from Zhejiang Normal University, Associate Professor Zheng Minxi from Fujian Normal University, Dr. Wang Wei and Associate Professor Gao Zhenyu from Hangzhou Normal University, Dr. Sabine Yang from Zhejiang University etc.They share ideas and research discoveries with each other and with audience from local primary schools, kindergartens and universities about various issues on children and childhood from the disciplines of philosophy, sociology, education, history, literature and psychology.
