Founded in March 2001, the School of humanities is composed of Department of Chinese , Department of History , both growing from the Department of Chinese, Department of History in Hangzhou Education College. It is one of the earliest schools of Hangzhou Normal University. At present, there are more than 90 faculty members, among which nearly 80 are full-time teachers, and the proportion of doctors is more than 85%. Some of them enjoy the titles of national or provincial talents.
The school adheres to the concept of "erudition, practice and perfection", and insists on the characteristics of "Humanistic school, Artful campus". It has three major teaching and research departments, namely, the Department of Chinese , the department of history and the research center of ancient Chinese Language Arts and Literature. It offers Chinese language and Literature (normal), Chinese language and Literature (non-normal), Chinese international education, history (normal), and Humanities Education (normal) .There are 5 full-time undergraduate majors ,with more than 1000 undergraduates.
The school now has two master first-level degree programs in Chinese language and literature ,and Chinese history, with 10 second-level academic master degree programs in ancient Chinese literature, Chinese classical philology, Chinese modern and contemporary literature, Chinese language philology, linguistics and applied linguistics, literature and art, comparative literature and world literature, ancient Chinese history, modern Chinese history and special history. It has also two disciplinary mater program: the teaching of Chinese , and the teaching of history. Nearly 300 graduate students study in the school of humanities.
The school of humanities has two first-class disciplines of Chinese language and literature , and Chinese history in the 13th five year plan of Zhejiang Province, two advantageous majors of Chinese language and literature and history in the 13th five year plan of Zhejiang Province, two key research bases of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province ( Historical Research Center of Zhejiang in the Republican Time, Academy of Literary Criticism), and two key research bases of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Hangzhou City (Academic Research Center of West Zhejiang, The Research Center of the Internalization of Urban Studies in Hangzhou ).
